Photo shoot

Yaay, I handed in my last paper! I finished my bachelor thesis a couple of weeks ago, but I still had to write one more paper for my Swedish literature class (luckily, this one was a lot shorter, but it still took more time than I expected). So now I have vacation until the 20th of September! I hadn’t told this before, but I decided that I’m going to do the Master in Scandinavian studies as well, because this year only made me feel like more, and I wasn’t able to say goodbye to Ghent just yet.

I didn’t just spent these last couple of weeks reading and writing, though. Last week, Tysje, who is studying photography at the KASK in Ghent, asked me if I wanted to be a model in a photo shoot for her master’s project. So I took the train to a tiny little village in East Flanders and we spent the whole day shooting in this beautiful, beautiful house where her aunt lives (I wouldn’t mind living in a house like that either!). It was really fun to hop about in the house barefoot and try all these different clothes and poses. So what do you think of the results?

Dandelion seeds

All of a sudden, our garden was full of dandelion blowballs. On our walk last week, my brother and I found a field that was full of them, and I blew away the seeds while he made pictures.

This week, I mostly stayed at home and worked on my thesis. When I went outside, I was surprised, first because it was so cold, and the next day because it was so warm. I don’t think it’s all that bad if it rains every once in a while when it’s spring, because the days are getting longer anyway, and the alternation between rain and sun makes me enjoy both of them even more. I actually don’t mind being at my dorm, sitting on my sofa, typing words in excel while the rain is tapping on my window. I think it’s pretty adventurous to go out for a five minute walk (with an umbrella, luckily) and going through the biggest downpour of the whole week. But I also really like to sit on the terrace at home, to walk on the grass barefoot and imagine it’s summer already.

Do you like spring as much as I do?

January

Fijne zondag iedereen!

I finished my two papers, and my oral and written exams for Swedish are done as well. Right now, I’m studying for my last exam, which is phonetics. So far, it’s been a pretty quiet exam period, especially the Christmas holidays and the days right after the deadline for my papers. The Swedish exam went well: my teacher said that I almost didn’t make any mistakes at the oral exam, and I though it went quite smoothly as well :) Let’s hope I’m lucky and that my phonetics exam on wednesday goes just as fine. Have a happy Sunday everyone!

Christmas in Leuven

Christmas decorations

Christmas decorations

It’s December and that means the Christmas decorations in Leuven are back :) I was planning on taking my camera this week to take some pictures of the city, but I forgot it at home. These ones were made last year, and it actually doesn’t really matter because it looks almost the same (apart from a few ugly additions ;)). The first picture was taken at the Old Square, the third one at the Naamsestraat, and the other ones are from the Grand Square.

It’s been quite sunny and cold, even though it’s not freezing yet, so we won’t be getting snow any time soon (and I really want that, although I wouldn’t care to wait for it until the Christmas vacation). And yes, I’m saying Christmas vacation and not stuvac, because I’m that busy this year (and I’m optimistic). This semester, I only have to do two assignments and one exam, and I think that’s a welcome change when I think of the horror exam schedules I used to have with seven exams in three weeks.

I’m looking forward to Christmas. Even though I have to work for school, I really only feel like doing fun crafts projects, baking things and just having a nice time. Next week, we’re having a Christmas party in Swedish class and that’s going to be yum-yum … um I mean nice ;)

What’s your favourite way to spend the time before Christmas?

Selfies

So I made a couple of self-portraits this weekend. I always like to try new things when it comes to photography, and I also really enjoy being both the photographer and the model. I think I’m gonna try this more often. I couldn’t choose between the ones in colour and the ones in black and white, so here’s both of them :) Which ones do you like best?

Have a nice wednesday!

PS: by the way, Oxford Dictionaries chose selfie as word of the year 2013 ;)

Herfst

Autumn

It’s autumn. I used to dislike this season because it made me think of clouds and and grey, rainy days, but I’ve started to like it the last couple of years, because I love all the red and yellow colours, and the soft temperatures, and the fact that we don’t have to wear as warm clothes as in the winter. I love taking a blanket and a book and cuddling up in my dad’s easy chair outside and enjoy the sun that’s still shining a lot more than in the winter. I also love the wind of change in our little country: the fact that after a long and lazy summer we have to go back to school and we get to learn new things, although that involves new worries as well. And to conclude, I also like the autumn evenings where I cuddle up in my dorm room with a cup of tea while watching a new episode of Borgen.

All the leaves that are falling in my dorm’s garden made me think of these pictures I made with Jade a few years ago. Back then, the garden looked just like now: a lot of beautiful red and yellow leaves, but also some green. What do you like about autumn?

Coffee

a few pictures from my spring break, last week. after more than a year, i decided to pull out my floral bed sheets again :) my break mainly consisted of working on my bachelor paper (i still didn’t write anything, but i’ve been reading a lot and made a plan. sometimes, it feels a bit like being an explorer, following qing zhang into his research of the beijing yuppies’ language), and also drinking coffee, running (yes! every day!), and being jealous of baloe (pronouced like “baloo”) who was chilling on my bed all day long.
